6 Places You’re Forgetting Sunscreen!

I’m melting! It’s my first summer in a place that actually gets humid.. and by summer… I mean we’ve had a hot 3 days. And I’m melting! BUT, I’ve gotta say, my skin is looking fantastic. So glowy and dewy. I’LL TAKE IT!

So, I love summer. My fave season. I wish I lived somewhere that got 365 days of summer. But summer and I… we kind of have a love/hate relationship. Here’s the thing: I’M ALLERGIC TO THE SUN. Or some shit. I don’t really know. But SOMETIMES (not all the time, but most of the time) when I’m in the sun, I break out in hives. Like, peel a layer off my skin and pour acid on me kind of painful hives. GROSS and PAINFUL!

I’ve spent weeks in the sun in Mexico and been fine. Other times I’ve sat under an umbrella on a patio and exploded in a rash. ew!

No rhyme or reason… (But hey! If you know anything about this, please fill me in!)

I basically never leave the house without sunscreen. I never know when I can all of a sudden have this random allergic reaction. Now that I have a child (A sensitive-skinned red headed one at that) I’m even more diligent about slathering on the SPF and not missing a spot!

6 places you're forgetting sunscreen

Caring even more about my kid getting sun exposure than I ever had about my allergic reaction, I’ve really learned to pay extra careful attention to every little spot. And it got me thinking… Are YOU guys forgetting to apply sunscreen in these places!?

I know we all care about sun exposure and aging…. So I just thought I’d check in and make sure my loves are all covered!

6 Places You’re Forgetting Sunscreen
Scalp

I hate the word scalp. But listen, this is a big one. Make sure you’re scalp is protected. I know I know. Sunscreen in your hair feels disgusting. But there’s ways around that! You can use a spray sunscreen OR throw on a chic hat!

Lips

Our lips are one of the first places to show signs of aging… don’t add to that! There are so many lip balms out there with SPF! Make sure to carry one with you in your bag ALL. THE. TIME.

Ears

Here I’m really starting to sound like a mom. But really, I’m sure we’ve all burnt the tops of our ears. Did you know that the ears are actually a super common place where skin cancer is found? And don’t just think that your long hair will cover them. (I have elf ears so nothing has ever covered them). Get some SPF on those bad boys and/or whip out that super chic wide brimmed hat.

Feet

Haven’t we all had that sandal line? If you’ve ever burnt the tops of your feet… you understand the pain!

Eyelids

Our eyes are another one of the first places to show your age. We wear eye cream so why skip the SPF? If using a sunscreen on your eye lids, make sure it’s one made for the face. And invest in a good pair of sunglasses! Treat yourself. I talk all about the importance of a good pair of sunglasses here.

Hands

This might be the most forgotten. An amazing woman at our local botox clinic pointed out once: Women will take care of their skin, get facial, botox, filler… whatever they can to keep their skin from aging. But when they bring their hands up to their face, their age really shows.  Even just the exposure to the sun when you’re driving can be damaging. And of course, we’re constantly washing out hands, so even when we apply SPF, it may not last as long as some other places. Keep some on you as hand lotion

Stay safe in that sun guys! Leave your fave sun-care products below! And before you leave, you’ve gotta check out Bring Your Own Kombucha’s post on NON-TOXIC SUNSCREENS!
