Perfect addition to #tacotuesday – A Spicy Jalapeño Grapefruit Margarita

spicy grapefruit margarita

I haven’t really been drinking for the last month or so, so it’s been a while since I’ve shared a drink recipe with you guys! You’ve been asking for them so I figured it’s time to share!

Margaritas are my favourite cocktail. It’s my go-to when we’re out for dinner and I want a little pre-wine drink.

Here’s the thing though: I hate when they’re sugary. I hate that gross bar lime some places use in their margs. I work in the industry…. I know what goes in there…. bottled lime juice, water, and a shit ton of sugar.

No thanks.

I prefer to use REAL, fresh squeezed juice. Tastes better and more guilt-free.

AND making my favourite cocktail spicy… makes it more sip-able and less chug-able.

Because I’m all about finding the positives in guilty-pleasures, let’s start with the health benefits of grapefruit, shall we?

♥ Can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure

♥ Contains more water than almost any other fruit

♥ Reduces inflamation

♥ Helps prevent cancer cells from multiplying

♥ High in antioxidants

See, this drink isn’t so bad…

Okay, now that I have you convinced you don’t need to wait until 5:00 to enjoy this margarita… here’s how you make it…

Ingredients:

1.5 oz blanco tequila

3-4 slices of a jalapeño

juice of 1/2 a lemon

fresh squeezed grapefruit juice

Small drop of agave (more if you like sweeter)

coarse sea salt for garnish

Instructions:

Rim HALF your glass with sea salt. In a martini shaker, add the tequila, lemon juice, and jalapeño slices. Muddle muddle muddle. And the agave and shake. FILL glass with ice (always have lots of ice), strain the mixture over ice and top with FRESH SQUEEZED grapefruit juice. Stir and sip away!

You don’t need a citrus juicer to get the grapefruit juice either.  I don’t have one and I always use fresh squeezed grapefruit, lemon, and lime in my drinks. Grapefruits are a bit easier because they’re bigger. But if you need a little assistance in getting every last drop, use a fork! Jab it in the middle of the cut fruit and wiggle it around, kind of scraping it out.  You’ll be surprised how much juice you can get!

Enjoy!!

XO
