My Obsession with Golden Milk

AH! Okay you guys. If you have never tried golden milk, you have to start now. Here’s why:

It’s d-lish. I’ve always been a coffee addict, but mostly because I like to have something hot to sip on, especially as I’m starting my day. And tea just doesn’t always cut it. Golden milk TASTES like getting a creamy, 750 calorie macchiato from Starbucks, but without all the sugar and unnecessary calories… AND it has health benefits. I know, right?

Takes about 10 minutes to make. That’s about 6 minutes less time than you’ll spend in the drive through. And about the same time as it takes to boil the kettle and steep a tea bag.  Again, this is in terms of just making something warm to sip on, NOT a caffeine replacement because there is no caffeine in it just a heads up.

So many health benefits. But we’ll get to those in just a minute

golden milk with turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon

So, as I’m sure many of you have, I started seeing golden milk all over the internet. Especially Instagram and Pinterest. It always looked delicious and once I read about its many benefits, I HAD to try it. Not gonna lie, my expectations were low. But I instantly fell in love! Not only does it taste amazing, but those benefits they were talking about, turn out to be true!

A while back I was having MAJOR issues with my eyes… Like was given prescription steroids 5 times in 5 months kind of issues. There are probably some other contributing factors as well, but I started drinking this magical little concoction as I was finishing up my last round of steroids, and I haven’t had an issue since (It’s now been over 2 months!)

Here are just a few of the benefits “golden milk” and turmeric have:

Acts as an anti-inflammatory

Helps with swelling and pain from things like headaches

Helps to prevent and cure colds/flus

Anti-depressent

Helps aid digestive system

Obsession with Golden Milk

Okay so now that you have no reason not to give it a try, you could probably use a recipe…

In a saucepan over medium heat, add:

  • 2 cups of coconut milk
  • about a half inch of fresh turmeric, thinly sliced/diced
  • about a half inch of ginger, thinly sliced/diced
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • sprinkle of black pepper

Let simmer until you see small bubbles on the side of the sauce pan. Do NOT bring to a boil. Let simmer for another minute or two and stir. Turn off the heat, cover with lid, and let sit for about 10 minutes

OPTIONAL: I then add about a teaspoon of honey or agave and a small splash of real vanilla extract.  This helps to make it a little more sweet which I always do when I’m sharing with Lily ( She LOVES it and will now drink this rather than asking for something like a hot chocolate. I feel much better about giving her this as a treat) Try first though before adding these things because you might like it just as is!

And there you have it! You can try with other types of milk too, but coconut is my favourite.  For an added little boost of creaminess (and health benefits), add a teaspoon of coconut oil!

XO!
