A Super Hydrating Watermelon Cucumber Smoothie

Hydrating Watermelon Cucumber Smoothie

Summer is finally starting to make an appearance! Like, sorta. Man… living by the water can be deceiving… It’s never as warm as it looks. But it’s getting there!

With the weather getting warmer, we’re starting to crave cold, refreshing drinks. And some cold refreshing cocktails too, so OBVIOUSLY I had to come up with something spike-able.

This sip was basically inspired by skin care. We all know I’m all about hydrating. I really believe in taking care of your skin from the inside out. Some lemon water is great and all, but I thought I needed to take it one step further. Ya know, switch it up a little. Glow recipe is killing it with their watermelon mask. A cucumber mist is always fabulous. So, why not combine them into a smoothie? Or cocktail? Like, a watermelon cucumber smoothie cocktail.

Before I go any further, let me explain some of the benefits of the ingredients…

Watermelon

To start, watermelon is 92% water. Therefore, hydrating AF. It ALSO is a great source of vitamins A, B6, and C, as well as potassium and magnesium. It also contains lycopene (I know, I had never really heard of this before either) which is an antioxidant carotenoid that’s known to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, AND protects skin from UV rays. (see! The perfect sip under the sun!) OH! And bonus: It’s an anti-inflammatory.

Cucumber

It kind of one ups watermelon… cucumber is 95.2% H2O! Also fights inflammation AND protects skin against aging. Cucumber’s bonus? It also helps to reduce bad breath by boosting saliva production.

Pink Himalayan Salt

Okay, so I’ve shared my love of pink Himalayan salts before… but apparently it’s good to sprinkle in your water too! (Thanks for the tip TSC!) A little pink Himalayan salt in your drink helps to boost hydration and acts as a natural electrolyte. Who knew!?

Okay, you’re probably ready for that recipe now…

Hydrating Watermelon Cucumber Smoothie

1 cup watermelon
1/2 cup cucumber
1 tsp coconut oil
tsp chia seeds
a few raspberries
Squeeze of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup coconut water
Sprinkle pink Himalayan salt
**Optional: tsp honey to sweeten

Throw all the ingredients in a blender and you’re good to go! I prefer to peel the skin off the cucumber to blend better but do whatever works for you! And Voila! A watermelon cucumber smoothie!

I was trying to go for a #fab4smoothie with this but I just couldn’t add protein powder. So it’s like an almost fab4. Greens, fibre, and healthy fat.

Oh, and did I mention there are more ways to drink this smoothie?

Cocktail

FIRST AND FOREMOST. I told you this is spike-able. Shake about 4 oz of this smoothie with 1.5 oz of vodka and pour over ice to make your watermelon cucumber smoothie a cocktail 😉

Refresher

Throw this in a tumbler with some ice cubes. Maybe shake a little.

I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I do!
