Earl Grey Martini

Okay, this is a drink recipe I’ve been playing around with for a little while.  I love the idea of incorporating TEA into a cocktail. Partially because it keeps it light but mostly because it makes it sound “healthy” (wink)
To make the tea: Simply steep some STRONG early grey tea. I just made a basic cup of tea but let it sit for a while longer than I normally would. And then let it chill in the fridge until cold. (I typically let it sit throughout the day or overnight)

Early Grey Martini with lemon

Just like with my Margarita recipe, I use FRESH SQUEEZED juice. Seriously, it makes a world of difference. I really don’t recommend using the bottled lemon and lime juices.  Keep it real. You don’t need much either, just squeeze a couple lemons into a cup. (tip: I use a fork to really get all the juice I can)

Okay! So now you have chilled earl grey tea and fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Here’s what you do…

Pour into martini shaker:

1.5 oz gin

.5 oz simply syrup

1 oz COLD earl grey tea

1 oz FRESH lemon juice

1 egg white

Bartending tip: When making a drink with egg whites, shake all ingredients first with NO ICE. This will make those egg whites frothy (for those who wonder why egg whites are sometimes added to drinks, this is why – it’s gives drinks that froth!)

So shake all ingredients (sans ice) in martini shaker.

THEN add ice and shake again.

Strain into martini/coupe glass

Enjoy! I like using this as a brunch-y cocktail.  I love a mimosa but it’s nice to switch it up.

For those of you who need help justify a drink with brunch…. tea? Healthy. Full of antioxidants. Egg whites? Great source of protein. Just saying.

XO
