How to fake the perfect DIY blow out

4 Must Have Products to Fake the Perfect Blowout

How to fake the perfect DIY blow out

This weekend is one of the last before Christmas! How are you guys spending it?

I’m sure most of you have some sort of a holiday party to attend or social obligation of some kind. And I know, it’s hard to balance everything between wrapping up work projects, visiting family, Christmas shopping, baking… omg the list goes on!

We all want a fabulous day of manicures, blowouts, and champagne. But sometimes we just can’t make it to the salon (or they’ve been booked for a month!) so we’ve gotta take matters into our own hands.

I’ve got you covered.

Yes, I know, it’s not the same as sitting on your ass having someone pamper you. But I’m telling you, you’re going to feel like a rockstar.

Oh, and did I mention, this takes like, under 20 minutes and is insanely easy?

Seriously…

The Perfect DIY Blowout

Wash your hair

UGH I KNOW. The best part of going to the salon is having someone else wash your hair for you. Buuuuut this is kind of crucial to achieving a blow out. I like to shampoo just my roots and condition just my ends (I get super greasy hair)

Prep

Towel dry your hair and comb through. Then I use these:

Monat rejuvabeads – The beautiful @lynnmackinnon first sent me this and I’m obsessed. My hair grows way faster than I’d like (which isn’t as great as it sounds. I can never keep a nice cut for long!) So this really helps to keep it looking healthy! Just apply a small dab of rejuvabeads (or other split end product) to just the ends of your hair.

Monat Blowout Cream – GAME CHANGER. Like I said, my hair gets super greasy. This blowout cream is one of the few products I’ve been able to use near my scalp, like, ever. It somehow makes my hair shiny and soft without weighing it down. If you’ve got fine hair, I HIGHLY recommend this. It also helps to reduce styling time and protects your hair.

The Blow Dry

This is where I feel like I really need to do a  youtube tutorial. But I’m really not a camera person. Sorry! Maybe one day after enough wine, I’ll have the balls to do so. But for now, I’ll do my best to explain.

You’re going to need a hair dryer (obvi.) I use this one and attach the concentrator nozzle. Blow try your hair in sections, lifting at the root. Take your time. Don’t go all crazy and just blast the hair dryer at your head in any which way, as tempting as it may be (ugh, the days we wash our hair.)

By now you should have sleek, shiny hair that is ready to be taken next level.

Okay you guys, this is where shit gets real. THE ROUND BRUSH.

I don’t know what I ever would have done without this guy. A stylist used this on me once like 10 years ago and it’s my go to when I want hair that looks like I’ve tried but not like, curled. Ya know?

NOW, heat up this bad boy and separate your hair into sections. Take small chunks (your preference, you’ll know what’s right for your hair), and place the round brush underneath the section, near the root. Lift and start to twirl, away from the face, as you work the brush through your hair.

You’re going to have a subtle wave and TONS of volume.

Again, I wish I had a video for you guys, but I promise you, this is SUPER EASY.

The Finishing Touches

Hairspray! Spray a light weight hairspray all over to hold.

PowderPuff! I like to sprinkle a little bit of this Kevin Murphy Powder Puff into my hands and message into my roots to create a little extra lift that lasts.

I’m telling you, you’re gonna be looking SO good this weekend.
