Detox On The Rocks

Blackberry Mint Bourbon Sour
September 27, 2017

Blackberry Mint Bourbon Sour

Blackberry Bourbon Sour

Well guys… the weather started to cool down… the leaves started to turn, slightly… and then next thing you know, it’s summer again here in Nova Scotia. At least for today.

High temperatures and even higher humidity. I’m loving it. My skin looks great! …. Not to brag or anything (all those years of dry climates – I feel like I really deserve this)

I love to get in the spirit of basically any season. Fall to me always means cozy…

Think: fireplace on. Cozy cardigan. Sipping on some tea. Reading a book.

And to wind down an evening swap out that tea for an old fashioned and that book for a game of crib…. yes, I’m 80. My house is basically an old folks home.

Although, I’m still not entirely ready to let go of the summer days…. apparently today I don’t have to. So I thought it was the perfect day to share this cocktail with you.

Blackberry Mint Bourbon Sour

I feel like bourbon is such a fall-y drink. But when it’s still hot and sunny, you may not necessarily be in the mood for bourbon on the rocks or an old fashioned. Maybe you want something a little more refreshing.

And you know I’ll take advantage of any cocktail that can require fresh squeezed citrus or fruit of any kind. It kind of cuts the guilt. A little vitamins…. some nutrients…

Whatever it takes to make sure you get your 5 servings of fruit and veg, right?

*wink*

Okay… Here you have it…

Blackberry Mint Bourbon Sour

Ingredients

1 1/2 oz bourbon

1 oz simple syrup

juice from 1/2 lime

4 mint leaves

3 blackberries

1 egg white

What you gotta do

In a martini shaker, muddle the blackberries and mint. Add the bourbon, lime juice, egg white, and simple syrup. SHAKE! THEN, add ice and shake again. Dry shaking, without the ice, helps the egg white to froth leaving that pretty little layer at the top of your drink. Strain into coupe glass and garnish with extra blackberry and mint

There you are!

Have you noticed I love any drink in a coupe glass? They just look so dainty and pretty. The downside though: It makes your cocktails quicker to down… Like a lot quicker.

So just a heads up, prepare to have a second drink… and get another serving of fruits 😉

XOXO
